HOW INTER CAN WIN LEAGUE TITLE

Serie A leaders Inter Milan have moved a step closer to winning a first league title in over a decade after the battling win over hosts Torino at the weekend. It was one of three trophies won by Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan that season. The Portuguese tactician led the Nerazzuri to an unprecedented treble after they won the UEFA Champions League and the Coppa Italia in addition to the Italian Serie A title. Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is hoping to follow in his footsteps by leading the same team to the league title in the top flight of club football in Italy. Conte and his Inter Milan team had to wait till the last five minutes to secure their latest win in the Italian Serie A at the expense of Torino. Lautaro Martinez hit his 14th league goal this season with the winning strike for Inter Milan in a 2-1 away win after Torino defender Gielson Bremer lost his marker. Brazilian centre back was culpable for the second Inter Milan goal scored by Martinez and made Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez who had come on for Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic four minutes earlier.

Hosts Torino were on course for a point before Martinez landed the hammer blow on 85 minutes. Antonio Sanabria had equalised for the home side on 70 minutes after the penalty opener from RomeluLukaku a little over the hour mark. The Belgian international scored league goal number 19 after Martinez was brought down by Torino defender Armando Izzo.

The win for Inter Milan was made sweeter with the 1-0 home defeat handed to AC Milan by Napoli. As things stand, the top three of Inter Milan, AC Milan and defending champions Juventus are the title contenders. Inter Milan have 65 points, while AC Milan and Juventus have 56 points and 54 points respectively. Juventus have played one game less than the other title contenders. Inter Milan are in pole position to win the league at the moment and they need between eight to ten wins from the final eleven league games depending on the result from their trip to Turin to face Juventus in the coming weeks.
