ATLANTA UNITED AGREE DEAL FOR DEFENDER

Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Atlanta United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign a centre back from Argentina. This is not surprising since the MLS club is being managed by an Argentine at the moment after Gabriel Heinze was appointed into the role towards the end of last year. Ex-Argentine national team player Gabriel Heinze has been given the task of taking Atlanta United forward ahead of the 2021 MLS season billed to start in the coming weeks. According to Argentine reporter German Garcia Grova, Atlanta United have made a concrete move in a bid to bolster the defensive options on offer for Gabriel Heinze ahead of the new season. Grova said that Atlanta United and Velez Sarsfield have agreed a deal for Argentine centre back Lautaro Giannetti to join Gabriel Heinze in the MLS.

LautaroGiannetti is expected to report to Atlanta United training this week as the club tries to finalise the transfer. LautaroGiannetti would be the perfect replacement for Fernando Meza, who has left the MLS team for Defensa y Justicia. LautaroGiannetti is not a stranger to Gabriel Heinze after the former Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Manchester United left-back cum centre back managed him at Velez Sarsfield. LautaroGiannetti has spent the whole of his career in his native Argentina with Velez Sarsfield and the 27-year-old was part of the playing squad managed by Gabriel Heinze. Giannetti is expected to marshal the Atlanta United defence for the new MLS season.

LautaroGiannetti was a regular starter for Gabriel Heinze during his tenure as the Velez Sarsfield boss. Until now, Atlanta United have tried and failed to sign a new centre back. The MLS outfit showed serious interest in Hector David Martinez before the move fell through due to the involvement of River Plate FC of Argentina.
