Roberto Mancini has to make it happen with Inter Milan

Just by taking into account the amount of money that was spent in signing Stephan Jovetic and Geoffrey Kondogbia, the transfer fee for both of these players reaches around €60 million.

That’s just in signing 2 players, Inter Milan has spent more money in this summer transfer window if you take into consideration all of the other players that have been signed so far.

The Indonesian businessman is serious about his quest of pushing Inter Milan into a European spot and turning them into a world class team. Erick Thohir has already established meetings with Roberto Mancini concerning what he plans and wants to accomplish with the Italian club for the next season but the pressure is not only on Mancini to clinch those desired top spots, its also on the players to aid in this journey.

Erick Thohir has made it clear also to the players what’s on the plans of the club and he highlighted that the Champions League is at the top of his list.

Inter Milan’s Erick Thohir said: “I have spoken one-to-one with nearly all of the players in the last few days. I wanted to get to know them better but above all to explain our objective: qualification for the Champions League.”

Even though the pressure is being placed on both Roberto Mancini and their latest signings, the one who is at a more likely risk to lose his job is the Italian manager as he now has to find a way to organize his squad in the best way and if he is unable to do that, Erick Thohir and his staff probably won’t hesitate in sacking him and find a replacement especially taking into consideration all of the cash that has been spent recently.

Inter Milan doesn’t necessarily have to finish in the top 2 spots of the Serie A but Thohir does want to see a significant rise from the clubs’ 8th finish in the previous season.

Roberto Mancini says that he is not interested in selling striker Mauro Icardi

Inter boss Roberto Mancini says that he is not interested in selling striker Mauro Icardi despite interest from several clubs across Europe.

The likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City are thought to be monitoring the situation of the youngster, who has hit 22 goals in the league campaign last season. This is a healthy return for a player, who plays in a team that does not create much opportunities. Inter have been heavily disappointing this season and the fortunes have not improved even after their former manager Roberto Mancini came to the club.

Inter have been heavily disappointing this season and the fortunes have not improved even after their former manager Roberto Mancini came to the club.

The club finished the campaign in eighth place after a 4-3 win over Empoli. They were unable to catch up with the likes of Sampdoria and Genoa due to poor form towards the end of the campaign. Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni has scored the same number of goals asIcardi, but it is with the Inter player that many top clubs are pinning their hopes for next season. Even though the prized asset managed to recently signed a new contract, this is not seen as enough to ensure his stay. Mancini has come up with lavish praises of the player, and he wants to work with him for as long as possible.

“He was as good as Toni, I’m happy that we have won the top scorer. He’s improved week after week, tonight he could even make four [goals] for all the chances we had.I would like him to stay for [next season], start afresh from him again next year. The same goes for Kovacic, tonight he did what he should do always, he must learn to be more consistent over time,” said Mancini.Icardi himself ruled out any speculation by stating his intentions to stay at the San Siro beyond the current campaign.

MANCINI STARTS WITH DRAW

Inter Milan recently brought back Roberto Mancini for a second spell at the club in order to replace Walter Mazzarri, who was sacked just into the international break.

Mancini’s return to the San Siro has been marked with one of the games of the campaign. Their match against archrivals AC Milan on Sunday night was seen as a major chance for Mancini to get confidence back into the team.

However, they could only achieve a 1-1 draw and it required a second-half goal from Inter to get this point. Joel Obi score the equaliser in the second half to save Mancini’s blushes, but the Italian admitted after the match that Inter need a lot of work to be done and that success cannot come over night.

Inter have been struggling to get back to the Italian elite level in the last few years. They are without any form of European football this campaign. After a poor start under Mazzarri, Inter are looking once again unlikely to finish in the top three.

Mancini won several league titles with Inter in his first spell, when they were powered by the goals of star-striker Zlatan Ibrahimovich, which made them favourites for the league in the eyes of the Swedish bookmakers. Even though those titles are heavily disputed due to the lack of proper competition at that period, the former Manchester City manager is held in high regard. It may be awhile before he starts winning league titles with this Inter team.

“Derbies are always difficult and this was no different. I am very happy with the way the team moved, as with five days together to change a system after a year and a half playing 3-5-2 was not easy. They all did very well. I don’t expect to change a team completely in five days, especially when the systems are different. It will take time, but our objective is to win as many games as possible quickly, even if we’re not at 100 per cent,” said Mancini.
