CHAMPIONS LEAGUE VICTORY NON-NEGOTIABLE FOR INTER

Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has his work cut out if the Italian tactician is to deliver Champions League knockout stage football for the first time in his tenure as the Nerazurri boss.

Ex-Chelsea and Juventus manager Conte was appointed the Inter Milan boss at the start of the last campaign and big things were expected of the former Italian international player but he has not been able to reach those expectations. Under his watch, Inter Milan failed to mount a sustained title challenge in the Italian Serie A last season as the Nerazurri finished a distant second to champions Juventus who won their eighth successive league title as a result

INTER MILAN DEFEATS CHELSEA 2-1

The Blues lost 2-1 to the Italian side. StevanJovetic was fouled by Cesar Azpilicueta so the ref pointed to the spot. Jovetic penalty kick was saved by Chelsea first choice stopper Thibaut Courtois but the forward netted the rebound.

GeofrreyKondogbia scored an own goal to restore parity but the Premier League champs could not build on it to get the equalizer. They could not even maintain the draw as Inter got another goal. Alvaro Morata played closer together with MichyBatshuayi – who has enjoyed a good pre-season run – but they could not break the resolute Inter side.

Jovetic and Manchester United target Ivan Perisic combined for the second goal as the Croatia international sent his shot low from a tight angle to beat Courtois. Perisic would have added or setup another but Courtois intercepted his combination with Portugal international Joao Mario.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte would not be too pleased with the result as they are to face Arsenal next week in the Community Shield game, being winners of the league vs. winners of the FA Cup. Batshuayi leveled proceedings but it was ruled offside but replays showed his close range effort after latching onto a Cesc Fabregas pass was actually onside.

Conte has decried wanting a better fate compared to that of Jose Mourinho and Clauido Ranieri after their league win. There is anxiety and uncertainty at Stamford Bridge ahead of their league title defense. Conte hopes the team calms down and play their normal game that saw them soar onto a title win after a shaky start last season.
