Stefan de Vrij honoured to play for Inter Milan

Netherlands international Stefan de Vrij has expressed his honour to wear the Inter Milan shirt during the current campaign. The Dutchman made the Bosman move from Lazio at the conclusion of the previous season and he has since cemented a regular role at the heart of the club’s defence alongside Milan Skriniar.

Speaking in an interview on the club’s official website, De Vrij revealed his former experience while visiting the San Siro as the opposition while saying that he is proud to wear the club’s colours, he quipped: “When you came to San Siro as an opponent it was almost like an episode of Westworld, really.

“There was always fog, when you arrived in front of this impressive stadium, full of history. Before I was afraid but today as an Inter player I feel a crazy charge. I feel proud and privileged to be playing in these colours. My goal is simple…to honour this shirt. I know that if we do this, this is the best place to play football.”

“Inter started the season with a bright spark with regular wins during the opening phase of the campaign“ and this kept them within eight points off the top of the table. However, they have since experienced a “mixed run of form“ and this has dropped them a further six points adrift of leaders Juventus, who have continued their dominance at the summit.

As such, finishing in the Champions League positions should be considered as the club’s main aim for the season and so far, they are doing the same with ease with seven points separating them fifth-placed Sampdoria. Next up, the Nerazzurri are scheduled to face Empoli on the road and manager Luciano Spalletti will be hoping that the team can overcome the hurdle to enter the winter break with a positive mindset.
