SERIE A: INTER NEED FIVE WINS

Inter Milan have watched Italian football rivals Juventus dominate the Serie A for the better part of the last decade and it was right that the Nerazzuri would be the club to halt that run though they still have a bit of work to do to make that possible.

Juventus have won the Italian Serie A for the last nine seasonsto take their league tally to a record-extending 36 times. Inter Milan and AC Milan are joint second with 18 league titles plus 15 times as runners-up.

Inter Milan have opened up an 11-point lead at the top of the table with eight games to go and if they go on to win the title , the Nerazzuri fans would be able to celebrate stopping Juventus from winning a special tenth successive league title for a long time.

Italian tactician Antonio Conte is a man that has courted controversy at every club he has managed till date and Inter are not an exception to the rule. As a matter of fact, the club came close to letting Conte leave at the end of a disappointing first season that saw the Nerazzuri lose to Sevilla in the Europa League final in addition to not being able to dethrone Juventus in the Italian Serie A last season.

Inter Milan officials would be delighted that they didn't pull the plug on Conte’s managerial reign at the club as he closes in on delivering a first league title for the club in over a decade. Jose Mourinho was the last man to win a league title for the Nerazzuri and that came at the end of the 2009/10 as part of an unprecedented treble.

Conte and his players faced a resilient Cagliari side in their last league game over the weekend and they had to rely on a late goal from Italian international Matteo Darmian to win the game. Darmian scored 13 minutes from time to hand his team a 1-0 victory at home to their Sardinia opposition and move a step closer to the title. Inter Milan now need just five wins from the last eight games to emerge as the new Serie A champions at the expense of the Old Lady.
