Belgium international Romelu Lukaku has backed Alexis Sanchez to become an important player for Inter Milan. The Chilean was initially expected to make his comeback from a hamstring injury with Manchester United but he could not resist the prospect of joining the Nerazzurri when they approached for a season-long loan before the European transfer deadline.

The attacker has since featured in just one of three matches for the Nerazzurri but Lukaku is confident that the former Arsenal man can prove a success under Antonio Conte, he told Fox Sports Chile: “I think Alexis Sanchez will have his chances, we will need all the players in the squad throughout the season. The coach has a plan for him and I am sure that he will get a chance soon as he is an important player to us.”

The Nerazzurri have made an impressive beginning to the league campaign and they have accumulated the perfect tally of nine points from the opening three matches. Lukaku has contributed to the glowing start with a couple of goals and he is hopeful that he can soon form a partnership with Sanchez in the attack, he continued: “The situation here at Inter is very different from what it was at Manchester United for the both of us. Little by little, Alexis and I will have opportunities to play alongside one another. I hope that at that moment we will be able to make a difference.”

Conte’s side were recently in Champions League action against Slavia Prague. They seemed on the cusp of suffering a shock 1-0 defeat before Nicolo Barella scored the equaliser during the second minute of stoppage time. The performance would undoubtedly not have pleased the manager and he will be looking for a stronger response from the team during the forthcoming San Siro derby against AC Milan.
