Roberto Mancini says that he is not interested in selling striker Mauro Icardi

Inter boss Roberto Mancini says that he is not interested in selling striker Mauro Icardi despite interest from several clubs across Europe.

The likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City are thought to be monitoring the situation of the youngster, who has hit 22 goals in the league campaign last season. This is a healthy return for a player, who plays in a team that does not create much opportunities. Inter have been heavily disappointing this season and the fortunes have not improved even after their former manager Roberto Mancini came to the club.

The club finished the campaign in eighth place after a 4-3 win over Empoli. They were unable to catch up with the likes of Sampdoria and Genoa due to poor form towards the end of the campaign. Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni has scored the same number of goals asIcardi, but it is with the Inter player that many top clubs are pinning their hopes for next season. Even though the prized asset managed to recently signed a new contract, this is not seen as enough to ensure his stay. Mancini has come up with lavish praises of the player, and he wants to work with him for as long as possible.

"He was as good as Toni, I'm happy that we have won the top scorer. He's improved week after week, tonight he could even make four [goals] for all the chances we had.I would like him to stay for [next season], start afresh from him again next year. The same goes for Kovacic, tonight he did what he should do always, he must learn to be more consistent over time,” said Mancini.Icardi himself ruled out any speculation by stating his intentions to stay at the San Siro beyond the current campaign.
