Nicola Amoruso insists Napoli don’t need another striker this summer

Former Napoli ace Nicola Amoruso has said that Napoli don’t need to make an approach for Mauro Icardi this summer, considering they have a top striker in the form of Arek Milik. The Naples outfit really struggled to keep up with Juventus in the race for the league title and they appear determined to bolster the attack ahead of the 2019/2020 season.

As such, they have been associated with a move for Icardi from Inter Milan but Amoruso believes there is no need for the Argentine with Milik present in the ranks, he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “Napoli already has a great striker in the shape of Arek Milik, who remains one of the best strikers in Europe. He is an extraordinary player not just because of the number of goals he scores but also because he is technically good. So why would Napoli sign another striker? There is talk of Icardi but I would keep Milik, who I prefer as a striker.”

Napoli have already strengthened the defence further with the recruitment of Kostas Manolas from AS Roma and the focus is currently on the forward department. Of late, they appeared on the cusp of landing Nicolas Pepe from French club Lille but the move was hijacked by Arsenal at the final hurdle with the Ivorian tempted by the sporting project and personal terms offered.

Nonetheless, the Naples outfit are actively pursuing forward targets ahead of next season and it remains to be seen whether a move for Icardi is made. The former Sampdoria man has already proven his worth in the Serie A over the years but they are concerns over his discipline, which may be preventing clubs from lodging an approach. Inter are said to want around £52m for the striker, who has two years remaining on his contract.
