Mazzarri Looking To Strengthen Inter Milan

Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri has revealed that he will be looking to strengthen the team primarily on the defensive midfield position. Inter come on the back of a very disappointing season in which they once again failed to qualify for the Champions League. However, they are expected to strengthen the team in several areas of the pitch in order to finally return to the top European competition. They have already secure the signing of Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United on a free transfer. They have also been linked with the likes of Fernando Torres as well.

John obi Mikel has also been mentioned as a potential Inter target. Mazzarri has for the first time confirmed that they are keeping tabs on the Nigerian midfielder, who struggled to get regular first-team football last season. For the last few years, Mikel has been the first choice defensive midfielder for Chelsea. However, Jose Mourinho largely used the likes of Nemanja Matic and David Luiz in the centre of the park. This led to Mikel being used only occasionally. Mazzarri has hinted that signing Mikel would be very important for Inter given that they struggled in this position last season.

Mazzarri’s position at the club was under threat for several weeks, but he now looks set to stay on.

"What Inter need on the market? It takes a player with the features of Luiz Gustavo, a player like a few ones in the world. I fear that he is unattainable for us. Obi Mikel? I don't want to name too many names. I said Luis Gustavo as an example. I remain of course, I have a contract with Inter until 2015. In the coming weeks we will also talk with the club about an extension," said the manager regarding the transfer targets in the summer and his future.
