Juventus knew that only a win in the Italian Derby clash with Inter Milan would be enough to maintain their push for Europe's premier club competition and they were able to meet their target even if the Old Ladyleft it lateto secure the three points at stake.

The Old Lady started the weekend in fifth place and one point off Napoli in fourth spot. They drew the first blood through Cristiano Ronaldoon 24 minutes. The Portuguese international superstar was able to take his tally to 29 goals in the Italian Serie A with his strike.

Inter Milan striker RomeluLukaku is the closest challenger to Ronaldo in the race for the title and he took his tally to 23 goals in the league with his equaliser from the penalty spot after young Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt was penalisedfor a foul in the Juventus box. That Lukaku equaliser came on 35 minutes and it ensured that both teams were level until late in the first half when Colombian player Juan Cuadrado slammed home a shot to ensure that Juventus went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Juventus suffered a big setback at the start of the second half when Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentacur was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Lukaku. Inter Milan didn't make the numerical advantage count until seven minutes from time when an unfortunate own goal from Giorgio Chiellini levelled proceedings for the Nerazzuri but Juventus still had time to score the winning goal courtesy Colombian international Cuadrado.

Cuadrado scored from the penalty spot to give Juventus a priceless 3-2 win at home over the new Italian Serie A champions. Inter thereafter finished the game with ten men as a result of the red card issued to midfielder Marcelo Brozovic in added time for receiving two yellow cards.
With the win, Juventus will have to beat Bologna away from home in their final game in the Italian Serie A this season and hope either AC Milan or Napoli drop points to qualify for the Champions League next season.
