Inter Milan have given the dreaded vote of confidence to manager Stefano Pioli, but they termed the 5-4 loss against Fiorentina as ‘unacceptable’.

It is understood that the manager offered his resignation after this defeat.Pioli came to the club only November when he succeeded Frank de Boer. However, he has been unable to achieve the sort of consistency required to qualify for the European football next season. The club has suffered three defeats in the last four league matches. Even after the heavy investment from the Chinese owners, failure to qualify for the Champions League or even the Europa League is expected to costPioli his job.

However, he has offered his resignation after the surprise defeat. Inter Milan have allowed him to remain in charge, but only until the summer. The club have confirmed in a statement that the manager is very keen on returning back to the winning ways, and that the entire squad should cooperate with the efforts of the manager.

The club have scheduled a training camp until Sunday in the hope of recovering their form. Inter Milan’s last victory was before the international break against Atalanta. Since then, they have taken only two points from the last five games. The club has now fallen seven points begin Atalanta in the 5th place.

"The manner of the defeat at Fiorentina was unacceptable for our supporters, both in Italy and abroad, and we are determined to put this right.Everyone at the club, from the players to all staff, is now focused on working as hard as possible to achieve the maximum result and finish the season strongly. In order to achieve this, the club confirms its full backing and that of the ownership for Stefano Pioli and his entire technical team,” said a statement on the Inter Milan site.
