Inter Milan director dismisses Luka Modric speculation

Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio has decided to avoid discussing on the club’s supposed approach for Luka Modric during the summer transfer window. The Croatia international had been heavily linked with the Nerazzurri shortly after the World Cup but they could not push through a deal with Real Madrid.

Since then, Los Blancos have complained Inter Milan to FIFA regarding an illegal approach and the Serie A outfit have likewise confirmed legal action against La Liga president Javier Tebas, who happened to criticise the club’s approach for Modric in public. Amidst this, Ausilio was questioned regarding the same to which he replied: "Who [when asked about Modric]? Let's talk about the game. We're happy with the team we put together, as we tried to improve it and bring in elements we were missing, particularly in terms of experience and alternatives in attack to make us more unpredictable. I think the Inter squad is now complete."

Meanwhile, the Inter chief was also asked about the future of Joao Mario, who has been deemed surplus to requirements under Luciano Spalletti. “The Portuguese has been the subject of numerous offers from overseas clubs and Ausilio has confirmed that the midfielder“ is free to leave San Siro, though he is not being pushed out of the club, he said: "We think there is space for Joao Mario, he is not being kicked out, nor forced to choose another club. He received offers, he is considering them and of course would like to play more regularly, but he seems content here and in line with the team’s objectives."

Inter have not made a strong start to the ongoing campaign and they are presently with just one point after two matches into the season. Their most recent outing ended in a 2-2 draw versus Torino despite holding a first half 2-0 lead and Samir Handanovic was handed much of the blame after dropping a clanger.
