INTER FAIL IN COPPA ITALIA BID

Inter Milan have failed in their bid to qualify for the Coppa Italia final ahead of rivals Juventus after they could not overturn the first leg deficit when the two teams met at the Allianz Arena Stadium for the second leg. Juventus had earlier beaten hosts Inter Milan 2-1 in the first leg meeting played last week Tuesday.


Inter Milan were unable to hold on to the early advantage given to them by star forward Lautaro Martinez inside nine minutes as Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the space of nine first half minutes to turn the game on its head in the favour of Juventus.

Ronaldo scored the equaliser for the Turin giants from the spot on 26 minutes after Ashley Young had brought down Juan Cuadrado in the Inter Milan box. The Portuguese international player added his second goal on 35 minutes as he capitalised on the confusion between Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and his defender Alessandro Bastoni to score. The confusion in the Inter Milan defencewas as a result of the back pass from defender Milan Skriniar. Juventus were able to protect that 2-1 scorelinefor the entire duration of the second half ahead of the second leg. Cristiano Ronaldo was the difference in the first leg as he gave Juventus an advantage in theirderby d'Italia clash with Inter Milan.
Juventus played hosts to Inter Milan in the second instalment of the derby d'Italialast night and it ended in a goalless draw to send the reigning Serie A champions into the Coppa Italia final at the expense of Inter Milan. Officials and players of the two teams were involved in various spats as revealed in a lot of the local newspapers this morning. Juventus will face the winner of the semi-final tie between Napoli and Atalanta in the final. The two teams played goalless in the first leg at the home of Napoli.
