Premier League title holders Liverpool are interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar as they try to bolster their defence which has been depleted by injuries to key players.Liverpool centre backs Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez started the season at the heart of the Reds defence before they picked up respective serious knee injuries.

The serious knee injury has ruled the two players out for the majority of this season. Dutch international Van Dijk suffered the knee injury during the Merseyside Derby in October. Van Dijkwas injured by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford earlier in the season. For Joe Gomez, the England international suffered his knee injury while he was on national team duty in October.

Since the injury to both Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Liverpool have been linked with a lot of defenders. Apart from Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar, the Reds are also interested in Schalke 04 defender OzanKabak, Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White, Sevillacentre back duo of Jules Kounde. Liverpool want to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan in the January transfer window but they don't want to pay the £54m asking price from the Italian Serie A giants according to the publication from popular Italian transfer news outlet Calciomercato. Inter Milan are not ready to go below that asking price for Milan Skriniar who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Liverpool manager JurgenKlopp has had to convert midfielders like Fabinho and club skipper Jordan Henderson into centre backs this season, while young centre backs like Nathaniel Philip and Rhys Williams have also played in the problematic position this season. Nathaniel Philip started the last game in the league alongside Fabinho at centre back in the absence of the injured Joel Matip. The last league game was a disappointinggoalless draw at the home of Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
